1. Peter Esser married Catherine ______.

2. Adam Esser of Elfgen. He married Sybilla or Sophia Bierman/Biermans.

  11. Joannes Adam Esser was born 31 Mar 1782 in Bedburg. He died before 1804. He married Sophias Mans May (1773?) Elfgen, Rheinland, Prussia. She was born Jul 1750. She was the daughter of Jodicus Mans and Gudula Webers. (Jocidus Mans and Gudula Webers were married in Grevenbroich in 1744.) She married (2) Henricus Clouth in Gustorf in 1804. She was living and present at her son Jodicus Theodor Esser’s second marriage in 1814.

Note:
Margaret Esser remembered her grandfather, William Henry Esser born 1857. Margaret lived with her grandfather as a child and had a close relationship with her aunt, Adeline Cordelia Esser. Aunt Cora was the person who passed the information to Margaret that William was the son of Peter William Esser and Cordelia, orphaned at age eleven, immigrated to the United States with an Uncle as well as other details of the family. Adeline Cordelia Esser appears to be named for her maternal and paternal grandmothers.

Birth records from Gusdorf detail the children of Peter Wilhelm Esser and Cordula Bierbaum including Wilhelm Henry born 1857 and Joseph born in 1850. Since these names are common in the Esser family and we do not have complete records this connection remains uncertain. Cordula is the german spelling for Cordelia.

The passenger list for the ship Cimbria lists the family of Wilhelm Esser age 31 including his wife and three children. Also listed with them was Johann age 65, Appolonia age 63, Joseph age 18 and Wilhelm age 11. The ship docked in New York on May 5, 1869. On 14 July 1870 the census of Green Isle TWP, Sibly Co., MN lists the family of Wilhelm and what appear to be Johann and Appolonia (Joseph and Abslsaia). Joseph age 18 in the passenger list is in near by Henderson. Wilhelm age 11 in the passenger list is not in the census but William Henry Esser born 1857 was known to have lived in Sibley County.

These families were preceded to Sibley County by another Esser family headed by Peter Esser born about 1795. It is not clear what relation this person was to the others. This person falls in the same age range as Joseph and the Peter William.

These records support the family genealogy of William Henry Esser born 1857. They suggest that Joseph/Johann was the uncle that brought William to America. In addition, it appears that Wilhelm age 31 in the passenger list is William Henry Esser born 31 Jul 1837. His death certificate indicates that his father's name was Joseph. Johann in the passenger list was likely the father of William Henry Esser born in 1837. They all traveled together to Sibley County. William Henry Esser born 1837 and William Henry Esser born 1857 were both known to have lived in Sibley County.
